South Africa are set to play two Tests against Zimbabwe in Zimbabwe.

South Africa are set to unleash two young prodigies in the upcoming two-match Test series against Zimbabwe in Zimbabwe after Dewald Brevis and Lhuan dre-Pretorius were included in the 16-member squad on Friday. The Proteas have named the squad with five new faces in it, with the others being Lesego Senokwane, Codi Yusuf and Prenelan Subrayen.

South Africa veterans rested

Aiden Markram, Tristan Stubbs, Ryan Rickelton, Marco Jansen and Kagiso Rabada are among the players who feature in South Africa’s squad for the World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia.

However, they have been rested for the Tests against Zimbabwe. Pacer Dane Paterson is also part of the WTC final squad, but according to ESPNCricinfo, Paterson could announce his retirement following the summit clash.

How the newcomers have performed domestically

In six First-Class matches, Lhuan Dre-Pretorius has scored 459 runs at an average of 65.57. Despite being new to the First-Class set-up, Lhuan slammed three centuries in his first five First-Class games.

Dewald Brevis, on the other hand, ended up as the second highest run-getter in the 2024-25 season of the CSA 4-Day Series Division 1 competition. He ended with 573 runs from eight matches at an average of 47.75, having scored two fifties and as many centuries.

Senokwane, Yusuf and Subrayen are also coming on the back of impressive performances in domestic cricket. With 559 runs, Senokwane ended as the fourth highest run-getter in the CSA 4-Day Series Division 1 tournament. In the same tournament, Codi Yusuf was the joint- fifth-highest wicket-taker with 23 wickets, whereas Prenelan Subrayen took 36 wickets to end as the second highest wicket-taker.

Both Tests will be played in Bulawayo but won’t be part of the 2025-27 World Test Championship cycle since Zimbabwe are not part of the tournament. The first Test will take place from June 28 to July 2, whereas the second Test will get underway on July 6.

Prior to the two Tests against Zimbabwe, South Africa are scheduled to lock horns against defending champions Australia in the 2025 World Test Championship (WTC) final at Lord’s. The summit clash will begin from June 11.
