3 Major Strengths of RCB Heading into IPL 2025 Season

RCB will be among the most competitive sides next season and pose a serious threat to the opponent.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) had a different strategy during the IPL 2025 auction as they didn’t go after marquee players but rather waited for other sets to form their team. Overall, they did a decent job with their squad formation and might be pleased with their efforts in the auction.

They picked among the best local talents available and possess some quality players in their squad. RCB will be among the most competitive sides next season and pose a serious threat to the opponent.

Along the same lines, we look at 3 main strengths of RCB heading into the IPL 2025 season.

Solid openers at the top: Virat Kohli and Phil Salt

RCB already retained Virat Kohli at the top and acquired Phil Salt in the auction to form a solid opening partnership. Both are quality players and possess strong skill vs pace, and Salt’s quick starts will allow Kohli to take his time before motoring along.

The decks in Bengaluru are flat and suit shot-makers like Salt. Last season, he formed a terrific opening stand with Sunil Narine and can replicate the same with Kohli this time.

RCB have solid pace-hitters from the top to bottom

One thing is certain; RCB will have no lack of pace-hitters at any stage of the batting order. At the top, they have Salt and Kohli and Livingstone and David in the middle, and even Jitesh and Krunal have shown good skillsets against pace and take them on.

Hence, it will be arduous for teams to counter them with raw pace and hard lengths in any phase. It is a crucial area in the T20 format, and RCB covered this aspect really well by buying the right options from the auction.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Josh Hazlewood Headline an Experienced Bowling Attack

Barring Suyash Sharma, who has also played a few IPL games, all other first-starters in RCB’s bowling unit have vast experience, including international cricket. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Josh Hazlewood are veterans with proven track records, while Yash Dayal has also played ample cricket in the league and has done well.

Meanwhile, Krunal Pandya has been playing in the league for more than six years and is among the finest defensive spinners in the competition. Even Liam Livingstone brings vast experience bowling against big hitters of the game.
