Former India and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) star Ravichandran Ashwin failed to find any buyer at the ILT20 2026 Auction today (October 1) despite being a top name to go under the hammer. The veteran spinner would have hoped to find a suitor in his first-ever auction after retiring from the IPL earlier this year but that wasn’t the case.
Ashwin also had the highest-ever base price for a player in the tournament’s history at USD 120,000 but it seemed to be a steep ask as no franchise raised their paddle for a bid.
However, all’s not lost for Ashwin and he can still come back later in the accelerated round of the auction and get picked.

If picked at the auction, Ashwin will be available for the entire season of ILT20 2026 despite recently signing with Sydney Thunder in the Big Bash League (BBL).
The deal with Thunder allows the Indian offie to miss the first three weeks of the tournament and requires him to play only the last three games of the season plus finals if the team advances, essentially clearing him for other commitments. However, it can now change depending on his fate at the auction today.
Apart from the franchise tournaments, Ashwin will be seen donning the India jersey once again too as he has also confirmed his participation in the Hong Kong Sixes 2025, Cricket Hong Kong, China, announced on September 18. Notably, this will be Ashwin’s first tournament after retiring from the IPL. The six-a-side event is scheduled for November 7 to 9.
