Exciting LSG pacer gets maiden India call-up for Bangladesh series

The BCCI has announced the squad for the three-match T20I series against Bangladesh next month.

The BCCI has announced the squad for the three-match T20I series against Bangladesh next month. Several young faces have been included, with a number of IPL performers preferred for the series.

Mayank Yadav, the young pace sensation of Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), has earned his maiden India call-up, whereas Nitish Kumar Reddy, who missed the Zimbabwe tour due to an injury, is also part of the squad. Meanwhile, Varun Chakravarthy, who last played for India in the T20 World Cup 2021, has also returned to the team.

Abhishek Sharma and Harshit Rana, who were on the Zimbabwe tour but not in the Sri Lanka series, also get their second T20I series for the Men in Blue. Jitesh Sharma, absent from the setup since the Afghanistan series in January earlier this year, has also returned to the fold.

Sanju Samson will keep the wickets, with Jitesh likely to be the backup in the wicketkeeper section. Despite his mediocre performances in the blue jersey, Riyan Parag has kept his place, showing the team sees something special in him, especially since he can also bowl a few overs with the ball.

Test regulars absent from the Bangladesh series

While several young faces have opportunities in the squad, the selectors have given rest to those in the Test squad. Players like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Axar Patel, and Rishabh Pant are not included in the side, whereas Khaleel Ahmed has been left out.

Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah will also not be available in the series. Hardik Pandya, Rinku Singh, Arshdeep Singh, and Ravi Bishnoi, part of the Sri Lanka series, have kept their places.

Suryakumar Yadav, the new captain of the T20I side, will continue at the helm and lead the unit. He will lead a team with a nice blend of experience and youth and hopes to continue their good work in the shortest format.

India have lost only one out of 19 T20Is this year, with the only loss coming against Zimbabwe. The three-match T20I series against Bangladesh will begin on Sunday (October 6) in Gwalior before the caravan moves to New Delhi and ends in Hyderabad.

India’s squad for 3 T20Is against Bangladesh: Suryakumar Yadav (C), Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson (wk), Rinku Singh, Hardik Pandya, Riyan Parag, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Shivam Dube, Washington Sundar, Ravi Bishnoi, Varun Chakaravarthy, JItesh Sharma (wk), Arshdeep Singh, Harshit Rana, Mayank Yadav
