Injury scare for Lucknow Super Giants pace sensation; leaves the field with side strain

He has previously been troubled by ankle and hamstring injuries.

During the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL 2024 match) between Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Gujarat Titans (GT), LSG pace sensation Mayank Yadav suffered an injury scare. He seemed to have suffered a side strain and soon after was spotted leaving the field to get medical attention.

The youngster bowled just one over in the match and looked much slower with his deliveries as compared to his trademark pace. He could clock in excess of 140 kph only twice in the over before being attended to by LSG physio and walking off the field.

Mayank has battled with ankle and hamstring issues in his career and it seemed like a reoccurrence of the injury. He previously had to spend time on the sidelines for the same reason during the Ranji Trophy season.

LSG pace sensation Mayank Yadav leaves field with a side strain

Yadav made his IPL debut against Punjab Kings (PBKS) and made an immediate impact. He caught attention for his tremendous pace and the ability to clock deliveries north of 150 kph consistently.

In his second match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Mayank registered the fastest ball of IPL 2024 at 156.7 kph and finished with figures of three wickets for 14 runs.

In fact, Mayank broke his own highest speed of 155.8 kph which he bowled against PBKS in the previous match.

The 21-year-old has so far taken six wickets from two matches.

Speaking about the match, LSG bowlers put up a solid show to defend 163 runs in the absence of Mayank Yadav. Yash Thakur stepped up to the occasion and delivered the goods with a five-wicket haul as LSG managed to win the tie in the end comfortably by a comprehensive margin of 33 runs.
