Australia Test Star Injured Ahead Of Ashes 2025, Misses Sheffield Shield Game

Sandip Pawar

The Ashes 2025 will begin on November 21 in Australia.

With The Ashes 2025 less than two months away, preparations are picking up pace in both Australia and England camps. Several Aussie players are featuring in the first round of the Sheffield Shield. Beau Webster, however, had to miss the clash against Queensland.

The injury at this time comes as a big blow to Webster as well as Australia. They are scheduled to host England in the first Test of The Ashes 2025 from November 21. Ideally, they would want all their players fully fit and prepared for the much-anticipated series.

Beau Webster Misses Sheffield Shield Game Due To Injury

The Tasmanian all-rounder was left out of the Shield game due to an ankle injury in the lead-up. Webster will be assessed further after this clash.

With the details of his injury still unclear, it remains to be seen if he will be available for the next One Day Cup and Sheffield Shield matches.

Tasmania managed to post 299 for six by the end of the first day, with Jordan Silk scoring a century. Bradley Hope made 76 while Jake Weatherald, who is vying for an opening spot in the Australia playing XI, struck 67.

Webster, who is likely to take the No.6 spot, would want to get back on the field as quickly as possible and prove his fitness.

How Webster Injury Could Affect Australia in Ashes 2025

Beau Webster, who made his debut in January against India, has played every Australia Test since, including the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 Final against South Africa. He has done a reasonable job, scoring 381 runs from seven games at an average of 34.63 with four fifties. With the ball, he has taken eight wickets at 23.25 apiece.

However, considering this is an ankle injury, Webster may not be able to bowl much in the Ashes. The other seam bowling all-rounder, Cameron Green, hasn’t bowled since his comeback earlier this year.

Green is playing in the Shield to build up his bowling fitness. He is expected to bowl in the Ashes, but he might not bowl at full tilt. If both the all-rounders do not regain bowling fitness, Australia may have difficulty managing the workload of their frontline pacers.

Australia also have some major concerns regarding their captain Pat Cummins, who is nursing a back injury. Reports suggest Cummins might have to be managed through the series.
