Australia men will take on New Zealand in the third and final match of the three-match T20I series today. The Trans-Tasman rivalry resumed as the two teams set their sights on the T20 World Cup. However, the star attraction, Cameron Green, is among the names missing in this series.
The visitors took the lead in the series with a six-wicket win in the first T20I at Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui. Marsh was the star of the show, hitting 85 off 43 as they chased down 182 in just 16.3 overs. The second T20I was washed out after only 13 balls of play was possible. There is rain forecast for the third and final match as well.
The news from the toss is Australia have won the toss and chose to bowl first.
New Zealand XI: Tim Seifert (w), Devon Conway, Tim Robinson, Daryl Mitchell, Mark Chapman, Michael Bracewell (c), James Neesham, Matt Henry, Ben Sears, Ish Sodhi, Jacob Duffy.
Australia XI: Mitchell Marsh (c), Travis Head, Matthew Short, Marcus Stoinis, Mitchell Owen, Tim David, Alex Carey (w), Sean Abbott, Xavier Bartlett, Adam Zampa, Josh Hazlewood.
Cameron Green was not picked for the New Zealand tour so that he could participate in the first round of the Sheffield Shield. The 26-year-old all-rounder made his return from a back injury in June but hasn’t bowled.
Green wants to play a role in the Ashes 2025 with the ball as well. To get back into the bowling rhythm, he has opted to skip the T20I series and play some red-ball cricket.
The all-rounder has been incredible in the shorter format since his return. He has scored 258 runs from eight innings at an average of 43 while striking at 168. Green has cemented his place in the T20I side, but without him and Josh Inglis, Australia will be slightly depleted on this tour.

Green has batted at number three in Test cricket since his return to action, but Australia would want him to bowl in the Ashes. His bowling gives the team a bit more flexibility and helps them manage their pacers better.
With captain Pat Cummins’ availability still unclear, it is important for the home side that their star all-rounder bowls regularly. Australia do have Beau Webster in the side as well, who can bowl medium pace, but Green is potentially more valuable to the side.
Green has over 1,500 runs in his Test career at an average of 34 with two hundreds and seven fifties. With the ball, he has taken 35 scalps at 35.31 apiece.
