The incident happened on the final ball of the tenth over of India's innings.
During the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 match between India and Ireland, India skipper Rohit Sharma had to retire hurt after getting a bad blow to his neck region. The incident happened on the final ball of the tenth over of India’s innings.
Rohit Sharma tried to hack a shot on the leg side off Mark Adair’s delivery but it hit him between the shoulder and the back of his neck.
Soon after, Rohit was seen trudging off the field looking unhappy following a discussion with the physios. Rohit could be spotted gesturing towards his shoulder as he walked back to the dugout.
Prior to the injury, however, Rohit was looking in sublime touch and even scored a quickfire fifty.
Suryakumar Yadav next walked out to the middle to replace the India skipper.
The extent of Rohit’s injury is yet unknown and India would be hoping for their captain to be completely fit before the marquee clash against arch-rivals Pakistan on Sunday (June 9) at the same venue.

Speaking about the match, India secured a comfortable win in what could be dubbed as a one-sided affair. Rohit Sharma and Co sealed the contest by 8 wickets and 46 balls to spare which will give the Men in Blue a strong boost to their NRR, in case it comes into the scenario later.
The Indian bowlers started off the match on a strong note and made the job easy after bundling out Ireland for a trivial score of 96. Gareth Delany’s 26 was the only decent knock in an otherwise lacklustre batting display from Ireland.
