Domestic batting talent Yash Rathod continued his impressive form in red-ball cricket to push his case for India A selection and a subsequent national team dream.
After finishing as the top run-scorer in the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 and second-highest in Duleep Trophy 2025, the 25-year-old looked in sublime touch in the ongoing Irani Cup 2025 too with a well-crafted fifty. He narrowly missed out on a century after walking back to the hut for 91.
While the Vidarbha batter is already on the radar of the selectors, he is yet to get into the India Test fray but his recent performances will now make it extremely difficult to keep him out.
Rathod’s current purple patch can also put him in the reckoning for a possible contract at the IPL 2026 auction later this year.

Rathod’s Vidarbha teammate and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) batting recruit from IPL 2025, Atharva Taide also showcased his skills with a well-made century (118* at Day 1 Stumps). Taide was also a key part of Vidarbha’s Ranji Trophy 2024-25 win with 609 runs in eight matches.
Prior to this, in the Vidarbha Pro T20 League, the opener finished in the list of top 10 batters with 176 runs in five innings, including a 94*(53). He was a consistent performer in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (domestic T20 tournament) as well with 189 runs from six innings at a strike rate of 142.
Taide will now hope that his recent exploits would boost his chances for an IPL 2026 retention. Atharva was acquired for his base price of INR 30 lakhs during the IPL 2025 auction but unfortunately didn’t get to play many matches, featuring in just one game and scoring 13 runs.
