Rohit Sharma's unbeaten 76 helped MI beat CSK in Mumbai on Sunday.
Mumbai Indians (MI) batter Rohit Sharma thanked former India assistant coach Abhishek Nayar following the former’s match-winning half-century against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in an IPL 2025 match on Sunday.
“Thanks Bro @AbhishekNayar,” Rohit Sharma posted on his Instagram story. Rohit Sharma scored an unbeaten 76 runs from 45 balls as Mumbai Indians chased down 177 against Chennai Super Kings with nine wickets to spare at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium.
Abhishek Nayar was recently sacked as the assistant coach of the senior India men’s team. He then returned to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) as an assistant coach for the rest of IPL 2025.
According to a report in Cricbuzz, Rohit Sharma has been working with Abhishek Nayar even before the IPL in a bid for the former Mumbai Indians captain to regain his batting form. Rohit even worked with Abhishek on April 16 in Mumbai’s Bandra, which was a day before Rohit scored 26 runs off 16 balls against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). It, however, remains to be seen if Rohit will continue working with Abhishek for the rest of the IPL season, given that both of them are part of opposing franchises.

With his unbeaten 76 against Chennai Super Kings, the 37-year-old put an end to his worrying form. Prior to Sunday’s game, Rohit Sharma had registered scores of 0,8,13, 17, 18 and 26 in IPL 2025.
Apart from Abhishek Nayar, fielding coach T Dilip, masseur Arun Kanade and Strength and Conditioning coach Soham Desai were also relieved of their duties. Nayar had been blamed for the Indian batters’ disappointing performances in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series Down Under in the 2024-25 season. Abhishek Nayar has also worked with other players including Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul.
Mumbai Indians’ win over Chennai Super Kings on Sunday took them to sixth place in the IPL standings with eight points from as many matches. Chennai Super Kings, on the other hand, remained rock-bottom of the IPL 2025 standings with four points from eight matches.
