IPL 2025 Set to Resume Next Week Following India-Pakistan Ceasefire After ‘Operation Sindoor’

IPL 2025 was temporarily suspended on May 9.

In a recent development on the cross-border tensions between India and Pakistan, a ceasefire was declared to bring an end to the ongoing conflict. Though it’s good news in itself, cricket fans around the world are also delighted, which means the suspension of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 was indeed temporary. The tournament, which was abandoned in its final stages, is now likely to resume next week, as per SportsTak.

When will IPL 2025 resume?

With 12 league-stage matches and four playoff games yet to be played, the IPL 2025 can resume action from next week. However, it may not be as easy for the organising authorities as it seems. They may need to schedule multiple double-headers to complete the league before the end of this month. Perhaps, the exact date is yet to be announced by the officials.

“The BCCI suspended the IPL yesterday for a period of seven days, and, today, we are on the second day with five more days left. The BCCI is closely monitoring the evolving situation and developments, and will take a call on IPL resumption after consulting all stakeholders of IPL and the concerned Government authorities. In the next 48 hours, we will begin consultations with the franchises, broadcasters, sponsors and the state associations slated to host the remaining matches before crystallising a decision on the league’s resumption,” BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia told Cricbuzz, hours after the ceasefire was announced by India and Pakistan.

Additionally, IPL will now require the Indian government’s nod before scheduling any further games. Earlier, another report today stated that the BCCI has finalised three venues to complete the remainder of the tournament. They are – Bengaluru, Chennai, and Hyderabad.

Points Table as it stands

The top half of the points table has been quite a frenzy this season. Gujarat Titans and Royal Challengers Bengaluru are strong in the top two spots with 16 points each, but separated by NRR. Another win for them would mean qualification for the playoffs.

The competition for the other two spots is quite intense. Punjab Kings (PBKS) look solid with 15 points, followed by Mumbai Indians at 14 and Delhi Capitals (DC) at 13.

The last game of IPL, PBKS vs DC at Dharamshala, came to an unexpected halt due to drone attacks in the neighbourhood. The match was wrapped up after 10.1 overs in the first innings. A decision is yet to be taken whether IPL would continue from 10.2 overs of the same match or a restart would take place. Another possibility could be to give one point to each of the teams. In that case, PBKS would hold an edge and cement their position for the playoffs.
