England Women Announce Squad for T20Is Against India, Key Player Returns

Disha Asrani

After a 3-0 whitewash against the West Indies in ODIs and T20 series, England Women are now set to host India Women. The bilateral series will include five T20Is and three ODIs. The England Cricket Board (ECB), on Friday, announced the 14-member squad for the 20-over format. While Sarah Glenn misses out, a key addition, Sophie Ecclestone, makes a return. The T20I series will kick off on June 28 at Trent Bridge, while the squad for the ODI series will be announced at a later date.

Sophie Ecclestone Returns to International Cricket

Last Saturday, the news surfaced that the 26-year-old would step away from domestic cricket to focus on her wellbeing, while recovering from a quadriceps injury. She had featured in two one-day fixtures and six T20 matches for Lancashire.

Earlier, Ecclestone also sustained a knee injury during the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 in February. She was absent from the West Indies’ whitewashes too. However, England were hopeful that she would be available for the India series.

Head coach Charlotte Edwards said, “It’s great to have Soph back, and we’re looking forward to having her back in the group. She has obvious qualities and she’ll be an asset to us.”

The upcoming series against India will mark Ecclestone’s first appearance for England since their 16-0 Ashes defeat in Australia earlier this year. This series serves as England’s final preparation ahead of the 50-over World Cup in India and Sri Lanka, set to begin in late September.

Going by the principle of "Do what you love and love what you do," it's almost serendipitous when I call myself a cricket content writer. Through the ebbs and flows of life, sports have been a constant companion since I learnt how to communicate. The bat, racquet, paddle, a pen, and now a keyboard have not just been extensions of my arm, but fragments of my brain and heart. They help me express, analyse, and celebrate the game I love, blending passion with purpose, one word at a time.
