Why Is Rohit Sharma Not In Mumbai Indians Playing XI Against LSG In IPL 2025?

Hardik Pandya confirmed the same during the coin toss.

During the coin toss between Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) vs Mumbai Indians (MI), skipper Hardik Pandya confirmed that veteran Rohit Sharma will not be playing in this fixture of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.

After winning the toss and electing to bowl first, Hardik cited that Rohit is injured as he was hit on the knee. It may have happened during the practice sessions ahead of the game. However, no official news of the same was released ahead of the match.

He said, “Rohit was hit on the knee.”

Will Jacks and Ryan Rickelton will open the innings for the Mumbai Indians.

Rohit Sharma in IPL 2025

As much as Rohitians (Rohit’s most loyal fans) would beg to differ, the 37-year-old is in the twilight of his T20 career. He has had a forgettable season so far with his scores of 13, 8, and 0 (recent scores first).

Despite leading India to a Champions Trophy 2025 triumph a few weeks ago, multiple fingers have been pointed at Rohit. His performance with the willow, across formats, has been questionable. He opted out of the last Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 due to similar tension in the team. Earlier, he retired from T20Is after winning the World Cup in June 2024.

Amid raised concerns, Rohit Sharma being left out of the Mumbai Indians set-up has raised speculations. For MI’s first and third fixtures of IPL 2025 (against Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders, respectively), Rohit was named as an Impact Player. He donned the blue jersey only during the batting innings of the team.

Going back to the proceedings of the ongoing match, MI made one more change to their playing XI. They have added Raj Bawa in place of Tilak Varma.

At the time of writing this report, LSG are going strong. They have put up 69/0 in six overs with Mitchell Marsh (60*) and Aiden Markram (7*) on the crease.

Both teams have lost two out of their three matches so far. Thus, both teams will look to upgrade to four points.
