Popularly known as Baby AB, Brevis has made a reputation for his no-look sixes and has hit it previously in franchise cricket too. The incident happened on the first ball of the 10th over of the Proteas innings as the 22-year-old decided to bring it out once again against Sean Abbott. The Aussie bowled full at the stumps but Brevis lofted it for a brilliant on-drive with a magnificent bat swing while keeping his head down.

Coming after a defeat in the first game, Proteas openers Ryan Rickelton and Aiden Markram entered with a clear intent of taking on the attack from the word go. The duo batted at a RPO of 10 before Rickelton departed in the fourth over for 18(13). Markram then followed the wicketkeeper back to the dugout in the fifth over for 14(10). It was then Dewald Brevis, who walked in at No.4 and shifted the momentum back in South Africa’s favour with his explosive batting.
There was no stopping Brevis as he raced to his fifty in style with a six off just 25 balls. Not only that, the right-hander then converted the knock into his maiden international hundred, reaching the three digit score in just 41 balls. In the process, Brevis also became the youngest South African player to hit a ton in the format. At 22y and 105d, Brevis broke the previous record held by Richard Levi, who did it in 24y and 36d old in 2012 against the Kiwis.
Brevis finished the knock unbeaten on 125*(56), propelling South Africa to a massive total of 218/7 in 20 overs.
Brevis has been in stellar form of late and his fiery performances will help him consolidate a spot in the Proteas Playing XI for next year’s T20 World Cup 2026. Prior to this, in the T20I tri series comprising Zimbabwe and New Zealand, Brevis finisheded as the top scorer for South Africa with 133 runs in 5 games at an average of 33 and a blistering strike rate of 187.31. Furthermore, with Heinrich Klaasen announcing his international retirement earlier this year, Brevis is the top candidate to fill in the void going into the ICC event next year.
Brevis’ batting is also a reminder to the IPL teams who didn’t bid for him in the auction last time before CSK signed him as an injury replacement. Given his impressive display, CSK will be pleased to have him and the young Protea will definitely be in the priority list of the five-time champions for IPL 2026 retention.
