Shubman Gill has backed India to chase down whatever target New Zealand sets for the team and played down the fact that chasing a score on this wicket might be tricky.
Speaking in the press conference after the day’s play, Gill said that it would all come down to “one partnership” when chasing a total in the range of 150.

“It’s all about one good partnership when you are chasing a total which is around 150-160. If you have one good partnership of 70-80 runs, the match is done in yesterday. So that’s what the conversation will be amongst the bettors to have one good partnership,” Gill said after the day’s play.
“And then when you know, even for the fielding team, once there is a 70-80 run partnership, even when we saw today, then when you are chasing 150, the body language of the opposition also drops. So that’s what we will try to do, have a one good partnership.”
Gill made an impactful knock in the first innings and after Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja restricted New Zealand in the second innings, the Kiwis are nine down at stumps on day two with a lead of 143 runs.
The highest total chased down at the Wankhede in a Test match is 164 by South Africa against India in 2000, making India’s task tomorrow not very easy.
