He last played in England's one-off Test against Zimbabwe in May.
England have called up pacer Gus Atkinson to their squad for the third Test against India that will take place at Lord’s from July 10. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) made the announcement shortly after their 336-run loss to India in the second Test in Edgbaston on Sunday.
“The England Men’s selection panel has added Surrey fast bowler Gus Atkinson to the squad for the Rothesay third Test match against India at Lord’s, starting on Thursday, July 10. The 27-year-old Surrey fast bowler returns to the England Test setup after sustaining a right hamstring injury in our victory over Zimbabwe at Trent Bridge in May,” the ECB said in their statement.
Gus Atkinson is returning to the England squad for the first time since sustaining a hamstring injury during the one-off Test against Zimbabwe in May. In that match, Gus Atkinson finished with figures of 2/58 and 1/17 and bowled just three overs on day four of that match. England won that match by an innings and 34 runs.

The 27-year-old was eventually ruled out of the ODI series against West Indies that followed. He also missed the T20I series against the Caribbean side.
Since making his Test debut for England in July 2024, Gus Atkinson has played 12 Tests and has taken 55 wickets at an average of 22.30. On his Test debut against West Indies last year, Gus Atkinson registered figures of 7/45 in an innings. That became the second-best returns by an England bowler on Test debut.

However, the 30-year-old did not get a game as England went to the second Test with an unchanged playing XI.
Following India’s win on Sunday, the five-match Test series is level 1-1.
