SA20 2026 Schedule Announced: Season 4 To Begin On Boxing Day To Crash Test Cricket Heritage
South Africa are set to buck the century-long tradition of hosting a Test match on Boxing Day (December 26) for the second time in two decades with the first match of the SA20 season four at Newlands.
The marquee T20 tournament, which is usually set to be played between January and February, has been moved up the calendar to begin right after Christmas as neither South Africa’s men’s team or the women’s team have any Tests scheduled in December.

Significance of Boxing Day Test in South Africa
The Boxing Day Test, played after Christmas, has been a tradition in South Africa for over a century. In fact, the Proteas were the first to host a Test match on Boxing Day way back in 1913 against England.
South Africa have played a Test on Boxing Day since 1992 after ICC restored their Test status in the post-apartheid era. The only break in the tradition came in 2012 when they played a T20I against New Zealand in Gqeberha which was heavily criticised and Cricket South Africa had to go back to hosting a Test.
