Why Is Dewald Brevis Not In South Africa Playing XI for PAK vs SA 2nd ODI?

He is named in the squad for the upcoming Test series in India.

The 2nd ODI between Pakistan and South Africa is currently underway in Faisalabad. Both teams have made two changes in their starting XIs. While the hosts have included Faheem Ashraf and Mohammad Wasim in place of Abrar Ahmed and Hasan Nawaz, the Proteas’ Lungi Ngidi and Lizaad Williams have made way for Nqabayomzi Peter and Nandre Burger.

PAK vs SA 2nd ODI: Playing XI

Pakistan: Fakhar Zaman, Saim Ayub, Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan (WK), Salman Agha, Hussain Talat, Mohammad Nawaz, Faheem Ashraf, Shaheen Afridi (C), Mohammad Wasim, Naseem Shah.

South Africa: Quinton de Kock (WK), Lhuan-dre Pretorius, Tony de Zorzi, Matthew Breetzke (C), Sinethemba Qeshile, Donovan Ferreira, George Linde, Corbin Bosch, Bjorn Fortuin, Nandre Burger, Nqabayomzi Peter.

Why Is Dewald Brevis Not Playing ODIs Against Pakistan?

South African youngster Dewald Brevis has been a notable omission from the visitors’ playing XI for the clash. Notably, following an underwhelming tour of Pakistan so far, the batter has been ruled out of the ongoing series with a low-grade shoulder muscle strain.

Coming on the back of a great run of form against Australia, the 22-year-old struggled to continue his momentum during the white-ball fixtures facing England. The stats hit a further low, as he managed only 54 runs in the Two-test series in Pakistan, including two ducks.

Brevis’ sub-par form continued in the subsequent T20I rubber, as he failed to register a single 30-plus score in three opportunities. However, during the third and final T20I in Lahore, he sustained the unfortunate injury that sidelined him from the current 50-over contests against the Men in Green. South Africa A wicketkeeper-batter, Rubin Hermann, has replaced Brevis in their squad.

The visitors are off to a dominating start in the second ODI. They have sent back three of Pakistan’s veteran batters, Fakhar Zaman (duck), Babar Azam (11), and Mohammad Rizwan (4), under five overs. The inclusion of Burger has proved to be pivotal for the Proteas.

He has scalped all three wickets for the side so far. At the time of writing, Pakistan are at 44/3 after 13 overs in the PAK vs SA 2nd ODI, with Salman Ali Agha (3) and Saim Ayub (19) at the crease.

Previously, the hosts had claimed the series opener by a mere two-wicket victory in the same venue. Earlier, they had also clinched the T20I series following a draw in the red-ball fixtures.
