India U19 stars Ayush Mhatre and Vaibhav Suryavanshi were missing from the recently announced squads for a triangular series against Afghanistan. The news was confirmed after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) revealed the India A U19 and B U19 teams earlier today (November 11) via an official media release on its website that will feature in the series.
The reason for U19 skipper Ayush Mhatre’s absence is that he was not considered for selection due to his Ranji Trophy commitments. On the other hand, Vaibhav Suryavanshi did not find a place in the squad as he is already picked for the India A squad for the ACC Rising Stars Asia Cup.
In Ayush’s absence, star U19 all-rounder Vihaan Malhotra has been bestowed with the captaincy reins of the A side while Hyderabad U19 cricketer Aaron George, who helped his side win their maiden Vinoo Mankad Trophy recently will lead the B side.
Notably, the U19 series will start from November 17 with the summit clash slated to be played on November 30. The tri-series will start with a match between India U-19 A and India U-19 B, and all sides will face each other twice in the league phase of the competition with the top two teams heading into the final.
