Just a few hours before the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 retention deadline, two franchises finalised trades as Nitish Rana to Delhi Capitals and Donovan Ferreira to Rajasthan Royals.

Nitish Rana to Delhi Capitals, Donovan Ferreira to Rajasthan Royals

Left-handed batter Nitish Rana to Delhi Capitals is now confirmed after he was traded from Rajasthan Royals. He will continue on the same fee of INR 4.2 crore, the amount RR had paid for him at the IPL 2025 auction.

Meanwhile, Donovan Ferreira to Rajasthan Royals is also official, as the all-rounder has been traded back to his first IPL team from Delhi Capitals. As part of the trade, his salary has been increased from INR 75 lakh to INR 1 crore.

Nitish Rana Boosts Delhi Capitals Batting as Donovan Ferreira Returns to Rajasthan Royals

For Delhi Capitals, bringing in Nitish Rana looks like a smart move. He is an experienced top order batter and also plays domestic cricket for Delhi, so he knows the conditions well. Rana has batted as an opener and at No. 3 and 4 throughout his career. His addition will strengthen DC’s batting lineup, and having him in the squad could allow someone like KL Rahul to move up the order.

Meanwhile, this is another major move from Rajasthan Royals, who have been very active in the trade window. RR had a disappointing IPL 2025 as they finished 9th and have already made headlines by trading Sanju Samson in exchange for Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran. Now they have also brought back Donovan Ferreira, who was earlier part of the Royals setup.

With Ferreira and Curran joining, Rajasthan may have to release several overseas players.

Nitish Rana and Donovan Ferreira in IPL

Nitish Rana has played 118 matches in the IPL so far, and in 112 innings he has scored 2853 runs at an average of 27.97 and a strike rate of 136.76. He has 20 half-centuries to his name. In IPL 2025, he played 11 matches and scored 217 runs at an average of 21.70 and a strike rate of 161.94, including two fifties.

On the other hand, Donovan Ferreira has only played three IPL matches so far, two for Rajasthan Royals in 2024 and one for Delhi Capitals in 2025. However, he has been in good form in 2025. He can be used as a finisher in the upcoming season.
