Marco Jansen's reach helped him.
Marco Jansen took a magnificent catch to dismiss Mohammed Siraj and help South Africa clean sweep India in Guwahati. It was such an arduous catch on every aspect, but Jansen, who has been magnificent throughout the Test, grabbed it somehow in the end.
Keshav Maharaj bowled a fuller-length delivery on the off-stump line, to which Siraj tried to heave down the ground and got a decent connection. However, Jansen, standing at mid-on, was vigilant enough to start running towards the ball immediately and reach near it.
However, the ball was still far from him, but he stretched his left hand at the last moment, and it stuck on his palm. While going down, the fielder didn’t suddenly thrust the ground, which could have popped the ball out of his hand, and showed good technique, completing the catch with one hand.
He has a long reach, which helped him get near the ball, and his big hands helped him catch it when few others would have even thought of it. Marco Jansen had contributed with bat and ball in the game, and this catch was the cherry on top, with a fitting end to a remarkable series.
Marco Jansen will remember this Test for a long time, not only for this catch but also because of what he did as an all-rounder. It all started with a magnificent knock in the first innings, scoring 93 runs at No.9 to propel South Africa to a big 489.

Then, Jansen bowled a sensational spell in India’s first innings, taking six wickets for 48 runs in 19.5 overs. This performance was all about pace and steep bounce, for which Indian batters were clearly unprepared, falling one after another.
As if that was not enough, he again bowled well in the fourth innings, where he might have earned only a solitary wicket but was accurate enough not to concede too many runs across 15 overs. To finish it off, Mohammed Siraj’s catch rightly went in Jansen’s account, that too with such a marvellous effort.
Marco Jansen won the Player of the Match award for his all-round show throughout the game. He has been part of some big wins in his Test career, but this victory with this performance will surely be one of the finest ever.
