Fresh Blow for SRH, Star Overseas All-Rounder Ruled Out of IPL 2026
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) are already sweating over the fitness of multiple players and in a fresh blow, talented all-rounder Jack Edwards have been ruled out of the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL 2026) season. The 25-year-old, who was bought for INR 3 crores at the auction last December, is understood to have suffered a hamstring injury.
The New South Wales cricketer injured himself during a Sheffield Shield match against Tasmania earlier in February and was also absent from the last round of matches. Meanwhile, no replacement have been announced to fill the void left by the Aussie.
It will be a big miss for SRH, especially since Jack Edwards had looked in excellent form. In the Big Bash League (BBL 2025-26) earlier this year, he picked up 19 wickets from 13 games while showcasing his lower-order hitting with 133 runs at an attacking strike rate of 168.35.
The development comes after regular skipper Pat Cummins and Sri Lankan pacer Eshan Malinga are already doubtful with their availability. Cummins, in fact, is confirmed to miss games and the Hyderabad outfit has already named a new interim skipper in Ishan Kishan while Abhishek Sharma has been assigned as the deputy.

Who will SRH name as Jack Edwards replacement for IPL 2026?
With Jack Edwards out and Pat Cummins expected to miss games and his workload being a concern, this seems like the perfect opportunity to bring in young England all-rounder James Coles. He has already been with the Sunrisers franchise, playing for their SA20 team Sunrisers Eastern Cape (SEC) and was one of the key cogs in their record third title-winning campaign earlier this year.
Coles gave a testament to his big-hitting abilities by smacking 152 runs in five games, at an average of 38.0 and a fiery strike rate of 170.78 while also picking up five wickets with the ball. The destructive credentials also earned the 21-year-old the most expensive player tag in the recent The Hundred Men Auction 2026.
Alternatively, in case SRH does not opt to sign a replacement, they have another English seam-bowling all-rounder in Brydon Carse, who is a solid option alongside Nitish Kumar Reddy. Carse had missed the last season owing to injury but will be raring to go and prove his mettle and SRH can use him till Cummins joins the squad.
