‘Jo Chal Raha Hain Chalega’: Rohit Sharma Quashes Retirement Rumours After Champions Trophy 2025 Win

He clarified his intent to carry on in the 50-overs format

With retirement rumours about Rohit Sharma doing the rounds, the Indian skipper tackled the question head on and gave a very direct and blunt answer. He quashed all the speculations, clarifying his intent to carry on in the 50-overs format after leading the team to the Champions Trophy 2025 win.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, Rohit said,

“Koi future plan hai nahi, jo chal raha hai chalega (no future plan, whatever is happening will continue)”

He also added in the end,

‘I am not going to retire from this (ODI) format. Just clarifying it so that no rumours are spread in the future’

Notably, Rohit had announced his retirement from the T20I format last year after winning the T20 World Cup 2024. Furthermore, given his age and the recent struggles in Australia, there was a buzz ahead of the Champions Trophy 2025 if the India skipper would follow suit like last year.

However, Rohit Sharma has now given a clear picture of his intentions for the future and it’s now likely that he might lead India in the 2027 ODI World Cup as well.

Rohit Sharma leads India to a Champions Trophy win after 12 years

Rohit Sharma marshalled his troops impeccably as India won the coveted title after a wait of 12-long years. The last time the Men in Blue won it was back in 2013 under MS Dhoni’s leadership.

Speaking about the summit clash, the Indian team dominated most of the proceedings. The bowlers did a brilliant job first up to restrict the Kiwis to a par total of 251. All four spinners Kuldeep Yadav, Varun Chakravarthy, Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel were spectacular, picking up wickets and choking the run flow.

Coming to the chase, Rohit Sharma led from the front with a captain’s knock of 76 off 83, which earned him the Player of the Match Award as well. Rohit, along with his opening partner Shubman Gill gave India a fiery start with a 105-run stand. Although New Zealand did manage to remain in the hunt till the very end, India’s deep batting lineup ensured they were never in struggle, wrapping up the contest comfortably with 4 wickets remaining.
