Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) opener Abhishek Sharma notched up his maiden Indian Premier League (IPL) century against Punjab Kings (PBKS) on Saturday.
Abhishek delivered under pressure, with SRH needing to chase down a target of 246. Travis Head joined the party to forge 171 runs for the opening partnership.
Abhishek celebrated his century against PBKS by displaying a note to the fans in Hyderabad. The note read: “This one is for you, Orange Army,” thanking the SRH fans for their continued support.
Abhishek was eventually dismissed for 141 in the 17th over, but by then, SRH were already in a favourable position at 222/2. He also set the highest score by an Indian in IPL history. He slammed 14 fours and 10 sixes in his knock. The 24-year-old also holds the record for the highest score registered by an Indian batter in the IPL, previously held by KL Rahul. The former Kings XI Punjab captain had scored 132 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in 2020.
