Rajasthan Royals have named South African youngster Lhuan-dre Pretorius as the replacement for the injured Nitish Rana for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.
Nitish Rana, who was signed for INR 4.20 crore at the IPL 2025 auction, has been ruled out of the rest of the season due to injury. He scored 217 runs in 11 innings this season at an average of 21.70 and a strike rate of 161.94, including two half-centuries. Due to the injury, he also missed the match against KKR, where Kunal Rathore replaced him in the playing eleven.
South Africa’s 19-year-old Lhuan-dre Pretorius has played 33 T20 matches and scored 911 runs, with a highest score of 97. He will join Rajasthan Royals for his base price of INR 30 lakh.
Lhuan-dre Pretorius had an excellent SA20 2025 campaign earlier this year. The young left-handed batsman impressed all with his stroke play and power-hitting and proved that he can deal with even top bowlers. He was the highest run-scorer of the tournament with 397 runs in 12 innings, averaging 33.08 with a strike rate of 166.81.

After that, he continued his good form in the CSA Provincial One-Day Challenge Division One 2024/25, scoring 316 runs in eight matches with an average of 45.14, including two centuries. He also did well in red-ball cricket, hitting two centuries and a half-century in his last four first-class games.
Pretorius is in great form, and playing in the IPL will give him good experience in one of the world’s top leagues. Since Rajasthan Royals are already out of the tournament with only three wins from 12 matches, they might try out new players in their last two games. With next season in mind, Lhuan-dre Pretorius could get a chance to show what he can do.
