Big Boost for PBKS! Proteas Star To Join for Remainder of IPL 2025 Despite WTC Final 2025 Commitments

He has been named in the 15-member South Africa squad set to lock horns with Australia

In a big boost for the Punjab Kings (PBKS) ahead of the restart of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025), South Africa all-rounder Marco Jansen is set to join the franchise for the remainder of the season.

Notably, Jansen has been named in the 15-member South Africa squad set to lock horns with Australia in the World Test Championship (WTC Final 2025), starting from June 11. The IPL Final, on the other hand, is scheduled for June 3 and Jansen might leave early if PBKS don’t make it to the summit clash. Currently, there are talks going on between the PBKS management and Cricket South Africa (CSA)  to see how long he could stay with the franchise, should they go deep into the tournament.

Jansen has been clinical for PBKS in IPL 2025, taking 11 wickets at a good economy rate of 8.8. His ability to generate good bounce even on flat tracks makes him a vital commodity.

PBKS IPL 2025 playoffs qualification chances

Speaking about PBKS’ chances of securing a top-four finish, they are currently in a good position. The Shreyas Iyer-led sie currently has seven wins and one draw from 11 games, taking their tally to 15 points. They still have three more games left to go and need one win to assure a playoffs spot. Another win would consolidate their place for a top-two standing and allow them to get two shots for the final.

PBKS play Rajasthan Royals (RR) on May 18, followed by a match against the Delhi Capitals (DC) on May 24 and their final league game against Mumbai Indians (MI) on May 26.
