Dewald Brevis now has two fifties from seven matches he played this season

Dewald Brevis arrival hasn’t been able to lift Chennai Super Kings (CSK) out of the nightmare that is their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 campaign, but his introduction midway through the season has offered a glimpse into the bright future.

The young South African batter has showcased his ability in all the seven matches he has played this season and on Sunday, his blistering 57 off 23 balls to take CSK to their highest total of the season as they completed 20 overs against Gujarat Titans at 230/5.

In the process, he also smacked Mohammed Siraj’s 19th over for two massive sixes and a boundary followed by a single that took him to his second fifty in 19 balls.

Brevis found answers to the tricky deliveries bowled by Purple Cap holder Prasidh Krishna as he hit the pacer for a six before being dismissed off the final ball of the innings on 57 off 23 balls.

Brevis superb form across all formats since November

Brevis has been in stunning form since being ignored by his former side Mumbai Indians and going unsold in the IPL 2025 auction back in November.

The starlet has been on a mission ever since that rejection, piling on runs in the SA20 and in the South African List-A and First-Class competitions.

He played 12 matches for MI Cape Town in 2024-25 SA20 and averaged 48 and scored 219 runs to lead his team to their first ever title.

In the CSA Provincial One-Day Challenge Division One, South Africa’s premier List-A tournament, Brevis finished as the second highest run-scorer with 398 runs from seven innings at an average of 66.

In the CSA 4-Day Series Division 1, South Africa’s First-Class tournament, Brevis once again finished as the second highest run-scorer with 573 runs from 12 innings at an average of 47.75.

CSK looked at the opportunity to sign replacements midway through the season and swooped in on Brevis and it turned out to be a wise choice. With a majority reshuffle on the card for IPL 2026, Brevis will most likely be retained by the five-time champions.
