Kuldeep Yadav was expected to feature for India in the second Test against England.
Spinner Kuldeep Yadav does not feature in India’s playing XI for the second Test against England that will begin in Birmingham on Wednesday. One of the major talking points leading up to the second Test was the possible inclusion of Kuldeep in the India playing XI. But he hasn’t found a place yet.
India skipper Shubman Gill said at the toss that the visitors wanted to add batting depth since the lower-order failed to perform well in the first Test. As a result, India added Nitish Kumar Reddy and Washington Sundar to their playing XI for the second Test against England.
“We were tempted to play Kuldeep but looking at the last match, our lower order didn’t do well, so decided to add some depth to the batting,” Gill said after England skipper Ben Stokes won the toss and opted to field first at Edgbaston.

During the first Test in Leeds last week, India’s lower-order batters failed to produce crucial runs towards the end of the innings. Shardul Thakur (1), Jasprit Bumrah (0), and Prasidh Krishna (1) were all dismissed while Mohammed Siraj remained unbeaten on three runs in the first innings. In the second innings, Shardul Thakur scored four runs, whereas Jasprit Bumrah, Prasidh Krishna, and Mohammed Siraj were all dismissed for ducks.

India only had a lead of six runs heading into the second innings, and the visitors were all out for 364. This meant that England needed 371 runs to win. Openers Zak Crawley (65) and Ben Duckett (149) set the platform for England’s win. Former skipper Joe Root (53*) later scored a match-winning half-century as he forged an unbeaten 71-run stand with Jamie Smith (44*) for the sixth wicket.
