CSK New Signing Replaced in T20 World Cup 2026 Squad Days Ahead of the Tournament
Australia have dropped Chennai Super Kings (CSK) all-rounder Matthew Short from their T20 World Cup 2026 squad. He was initially in the provisional team, but the 2021 champions have made a late change.
Short has been hot and cold for Australia in T20Is, and his recent outings might have led to his omission. Since 2025, the all-rounder has 94 runs at a mediocre average of 18.80 and a strike rate of 132.39 in seven T20I innings, with a best of 29.

Matthew Renshaw replaces CSK’s Matthew Short in Australia squad for T20 World Cup 2026
Matthew Renshaw, who has been in terrific form lately, has made a late entrance to Australia’s T20 World Cup 2026 squad. He enjoyed a fruitful BBL 2025/26, accumulating 324 runs at an average of 36 and a strike rate of 152.83 in 10 innings, with a century.
Additionally, Renshaw took five wickets at 19.40 runs apiece with the ball. His recent form was the biggest reason for his inclusion out of nowhere.
He can bat in the middle order, unlike Short, who mostly succeeded at the top, and will bring the LHB variety to the batting unit. Matt Renshaw gives Australia more flexibility and options in conditions suiting his style.
