Why Paul Walter Could Be an Ideal Left Field Target for Delhi Capitals at IPL 2027 Auction

Delhi Capitals could look at several players to strengthen their squad at the IPL 2027 auction. They may target some big names from the talent pool, but during the mini-auction there will not be many names that will be available.
After finishing sixth in the IPL 2026, they will look to make changes in the squad and release players to get a good purse so that they can use it in the upcoming mini-auction.
Paul Walter could be one of the underrated names Delhi Capitals may consider as a left field option. The English all-rounder could be a useful addition to their squad.
Even though he has not played for England in international cricket, he has been performing regularly in domestic cricket and also has experience playing in different franchise leagues.
Recently, he played in The Hundred 2026 for Manchester Super Giants and scored 247 runs in five matches at an average of 61.75 and at a strike rate of 178.98. With the ball, he picked up two wickets.
In T20 Blast 2026, he scored 382 runs in 13 matches for Essex at an average of 34.72 and at a strike rate of 157.85. Overall, he has played 192 T20 matches, scoring 3,075 runs and taking 118 wickets.
Paul Walter Will Add Balance to Delhi Capitals’ Top Order
Paul Walter, being an opener, could be a good partner for KL Rahul. DC tried Pathum Nissanka as Rahul’s partner, but he could only score 278 runs in 10 matches and did not make much of an impact.
They also tried Abishek Porel as another option, who scored 108 runs in four matches. Delhi Capitals had also bought Ben Duckett in the previous auction, but he withdrew to focus on international cricket, so he will not be available. This could leave Delhi looking for another opening option, and having Walter in the lineup would give them a left and right hand combination at the top of the order.

Paul Walter Will Strengthen Delhi Capitals’ All-Round Options
Looking at the Delhi Capitals squad, they only have Madhav Tiwari as a pace bowling all-rounder. He does not have much experience at the highest level, while Axar Patel remains the main all-round option in their likely playing XI.
Walter could give Delhi another option in this role. He can open the batting and also contribute with the ball, which means he would not only strengthen their top order but also give them another pace bowling option in the team.
Paul Walter Could Be a Cost Effective Target
Another reason why Walter make sense for Delhi Capitals is that he may not cost them a lot at the auction. He is not one of the biggest names expected to attract a huge bid, which could make him a cost effective option for the franchise.
Delhi could potentially get a player who can perform multiple roles without using a big part of their purse.
