Concussion Scare for Shubman Gill, India Captain Gets Hit on the Head While Fielding at Slips in ENG vs IND 2nd Test

India skipper Shubman Gill faced an injury scare on Day 3 of the ongoing ENG vs IND 2nd Test after he took a knock to his head while fielding at the slips. The incident happened on the second ball of the 37th over of England’s first innings being bowled by Ravindra Jadeja.

The veteran all-rounder bowled an outside off, spinning away delivery, which Harry Brook tried to drive. However, it hit the edge of his willow and flew to Gill at the slips who failed to get his hands up in time and lost balance in the process. The ball hit his head and bounced up and raced behind. It looked like Gill was hit hard in real time and had to get treatment and also undergo a concussion test.

Thankfully for India, the young captain seemed fine and was given the all-clear to carry on.

Speaking about the ENG vs IND 2nd Test match, India put early blows on England on Day 3. Mohammed Siraj took wickets in consecutive balls on just the second over of the day. Siraj first got the big wicket of Joe Root, who was forced to walk back for 22. He then removed the England skipper Ben Stokes for a golden duck.

With India having already piled a big 587 in their first innings, the Shubman Gill-led side were in a dominant position. England lost half their side with just 84 runs on the board.

However, a batting masterclass by a young No.7 batter put England back in the contest and made amends for the early setback. Smith put up an epitome display of Bazball, taking on the attack to India and firing an 80-ball century. Overnight batter Harry Brook also supported well from the other end. He piled a crafty 91* as England’s scoreboard read 249 for 5 at lunch.
