Why Roston Chase Is Not in West Indies Playing XI Against Zimbabwe
The 33-year-old has made way for Romario Shepherd, who had previously missed two consecutive fixtures against Nepal and Italy, respectively, due to a niggle. His availability in the crucial stage of the T20 championship will be a huge plus point for the Islanders.
Before getting sidelined for the last two matches, the all-rounder had shown exceptional form in his initial appearances in the T20 World Cup 2026. Shepherd had started off his campaign with a match-winning fifer in their tournament opener against Scotland, including a hat-trick. This was followed by another impressive display facing England, conceding only seven runs in his solitary over and dismissing the swashbuckling opener Phil Salt.

On the other hand, Chase had also put up a decent show with the ball, but his strike rate with the willow was set to be a concern for the Windies in the forthcoming key fixtures. Though he had snared three wickets in as many matches at a commendable economy of 6.50, the player’s strike rate of 107.41 was way below par in the modern gameplay of the shortest format.
However, Shepherd’s batting form is yet to be tested with two unbeaten single-digit scores in the mega ICC league so far. But alongside a lethal form with the ball, the fans can also expect to see some whirlwind knocks from the right-hander, as the West Indies aim for their third silverware in the T20 World Cup 2026.
