In the 2nd Test between India and South Africa, the Proteas once again showed why they are one of the best fielding sides. Aiden Markram took a stunning one handed catch at slip to send Nitish Kumar Reddy back to the pavilion, with India struggling in their first innings.
The incident happened on the fourth ball of the 42nd over. Jansen struck again with another short ball. He bowled it short on the leg side, and Nitish tried to defend it. The ball hit his glove and flew in the air. Aiden Markram ran to his right and dived full stretch to take a one-handed catch. South Africa’s catching has been outstanding, and this might be the best catch of the match. Markram reacted in only 1.27 seconds to take the catch.
After Nitish Kumar Reddy’s wicket, Ravindra Jadeja fell soon after. Jansen went back to the short ball, which brushed Jadeja’s shoulder, deflected off his bat, and carried straight to Harmer in the cordon.

India began Day 3 on nine runs for no loss and got off to a solid start with a 65-run opening stand between Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul, before Rahul was dismissed. Another 30 runs followed for the second wicket, but Yashasvi fell for 58, and that triggered a collapse. India kept losing wickets in quick intervals and soon slipped to 122 for 7.
More than South Africa’s good bowling, India’s batters made things worse with poor shot selection. Dhruv Jurel and Rishabh Pant both threw their wickets away. Jurel tried to hit Jansen but miscued the shot and fell to a short ball. Then Pant, the stand-in captain, charged down the pitch very early in his innings for a big slog. The ball was on a good length, and all he managed was a thin edge to the keeper. He even reviewed it the decision, but the edge was clearly visible.
With South Africa putting up 489 in their first innings, India are on the verge of being asked to follow on, still trailing by more than 320 runs. The Proteas are in complete control, and India now stare at the possibility of another home whitewash. After losing the first Test by 31 runs in Kolkata, India have been thoroughly outplayed by South Africa in all departments so far in this match.
