Mohammad Rizwan’s crash-collision and epic reaction in the PSL

For Mohammad Rizwan, the 2022 edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) has turned out to be a smooth ride. The Multan Sultans, under his leadership, are sitting pretty on top of the points table. Having won all six of their games, the team has almost made their way through to the playoffs. Their net run rate of 1.243 is the best among the participating teams.

During the game on Thursday, February 10, in the meantime, Rizwan found himself in a bit of a tangle while taking a catch. In the second over of the Peshawar Zalmi’s run-chase, Kamran Akmal tried to take the aerial route and skied the ball. Both Rizwan and fielder Shahnawaz Dahani ran after the ball, but they seemed to have a lack of communication.

In the end, both Rizwan and Dahani ended up colliding. But Dahani managed to catch hold of the delivery. Akmal perished for four off seven balls, giving Blessing Muzarabani and the Sultans their maiden wicket. After Dahani took the catch, Rizwan had a smile on his face and wasn’t much fussed about the collision.

On Thursday, the Sultans defeated the Zalmi by 42 runs at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. Opening batter Shan Masood top-scored for them with a 49-ball knock of 68. Skipper Rizwan and Tom David also scored 38 runs each.

The Sultans, in the end, racked up a reasonable score of 182 for seven on the board. Saqib Mahmood, Wahab Riaz and Salman Irshad picked up two wickets apiece for the Zalmi.

In their run-chase, the Zalmi were bowled out for 140 in 19.3 overs. Shoaib Malik top-scored for them with a 31-ball knock of 44. Muzarabani and Khushdil Shah got three wickets apiece for the Sultans.

After the game, Rizwan lauded his teammates for putting in collective efforts, but also talked about the importance of holding on to catches. He also had words of praises for Khushdil Shah.

“The credit goes to the players and the team management. We dropped a lot of catches, but we managed to end up on the winning side. We were thinking of getting to 180-odd and we managed to do that,” Rizwan said.
