Good News for India! Rishabh Pant Cleared to Bat in ENG vs IND 4th Test
India’s hopes of winning the five-match ENG vs IND Test series had received a huge dent after star wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant was declared to be ruled out due to a fractured toe. But according to a BCCI statement, the southpaw will resume his innings on Day 2 of the fourth red-ball fixture in Manchester.
However, Dhruv Jurel will replace the 27-year-old for his behind-the-stump duties. Previously, he had also taken up the keeping duties during the third Test at Lord’s after Pant picked up an injury on his finger.
BCCI’s Statement on Rishabh Pant
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has released an official update on the wicketkeeper-batter’s injury. It noted that the player got cleared to resume his batting on the second day of the Manchester Test. It brought in massive relief to the Indian fans as Pant was continuing a stunning run of form in the series so far. He had already notched up 425 runs in the previous three fixtures, including both innings centuries (134 and 118) in the series opener in Leeds.
“Rishabh Pant, who sustained an injury to his right foot on Day 1 of the Manchester Test, will not be performing wicket-keeping duties for the remainder of the match. Dhruv Jurel will assume the role of wicket-keeper. Despite his injury, Rishabh Pant has joined the team on Day 2 and will be available to bat as per team requirements.” — read a statement from the BCCI.

Pant is Back on Field in ENG vs IND 4th Test
According to the previous statements of a BCCI source, Pant was advised to rest for six weeks after sustaining a metatarsal fracture. However, the keeper-batter joined Washington Sundar at the crease on Thursday after all-rounder Shardul Thakur edged a delivery off England skipper Ben Stokes.
Earlier, on the opening day of the penultimate fixture, Pant was batting on 37 when he tried to reverse sweep a delivery off pacer Chris Woakes. He missed the shot and unfortunately got hit on his toes ,which caused severe swelling and a deep cut on his feet.
Though the batter is currently back in the middle, his participation in the upcoming fifth and final match of the series is still in question, considering a mere three-day gap between the two fixtures. According to a Cricbuzz report, N. Jagadeesan of Tamil Nadu might replace the gloveman in India’s squad for the fifth Test at The Oval, which will kick off on July 31. At the time of writing, Sundar and Pant are unbeaten on 20 and 39, respectively, and will resume India’s innings at 321/6 after Lunch.
