MS Dhoni will meet CSK management before the October 31 deadline.
There has been a lot of speculations going around lately surrounding former India and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper MS Dhoni’s future as the retention deadline for the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) season draws closer.
While recent reports revealed that the CSK management was keen to speak with Dhoni first before taking any kind of decision, MS Dhoni has now finally broken his silence about the matter.
“I just want to enjoy whatever last few years of cricket I am able to play,” the former India captain said at a promotional event for Rigi as reported by TOI.
“I have to keep myself fit for nine months so that I can play two and a half months of IPL. I have kept it very simple. I will train for 15, 20, 25 days, then take off for 15-20 days, so it really helps me be in the groove,” the former India captain added.
After retiring from international cricket on August 15, 2020, Dhoni now qualifies to be retained as an uncapped player since he has not played an international match for at least five years. This rule was brought back ahead of the upcoming IPL 2025 auction and would allow CSK to retain their icon by paying just INR 4 crore—a fraction of their INR 120 crore budget.
Dhoni relinquished his captaincy role, with Ruturaj Gaikwad taking over as his successor just before CSK’s first IPL 2024 match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). In the 2024 season, Dhoni contributed 161 runs with an impressive strike rate of 220, playing for the five-time champions, CSK.
As mentioned earlier, it is also expected that Dhoni will meet CSK management just before the October 31 deadline for player retentions.
