Australia all-rounder James Faulkner has pulled out of the remainder of the 2022 Pakistan Super League (PSL) after accusing the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for not “honouring” his contractual agreement. Faulkner was a part of the Sarfaraz Ahmed-led Quetta Gladiators, who still have two matches left in the league stage.
As per sources, privy to the development, the Pakistan board had deposited Faulkner’s fees into his own account. But if reports are to be believed, all-rounder wanted the fees to be credited into another account. When the PCB asked Faulkner to return the money so that it could deposit the money to the other account, Faulkner refused.
As per sources, Faulkner also asked for additional money from the Gladiators. Moreover, before abruptly leaving the PSL, Faulkner damaged PC hotel’s property under the influence of alcohol. Later, he had to pay the fine for the damages.
Faulkner was also said to have misbehaved with the security personnel, who escalated the issue to the higher authorities.
The PCB had earlier paid Faulkner 70 percent of his fees. As per the terms of the contract, the Pakistan board had told the players that the other 30 percent of the fees will be transferred 40 days from the conclusion of the tournament.
Before leaving Pakistan, Faulkner dropped in a couple of tweets, expressing his anguish over the entire matter. He also alleged the PCB of lying to him on certain issues. Faulkner didn’t mince words in saying that the way the PCB treated him was a “disgrace”.
“I apologise to the Pakistan cricket fans. But unfortunately I’ve had to withdraw from the last 2 matches and leave the @thePSLt20 due to the @TheRealPCB not honouring my contractual agreement/payments. I’ve been here the whole duration and they have continued to lie to me,” Faulkner wrote.
“It hurts to leave as I wanted to help to get international cricket back in Pakistan as there is so much young talent and the fans are amazing. But the treatment I have received has been a disgrace from the @TheRealPCB and @thePSLt20 I’m sure you all understand my position,” he added.
