South African batting legend AB de Villiers announced his retirement from all forms of cricket recently, but it looks like we already have his successor ready to take over the world again. Dewald Brevis, who is currently playing for South Africa in the U19 World Cup in the Caribbean, showed his similarities with de Villiers during their opening game against the India U19 team.
Walking in to bat at No.3, chasing a target of 233, Brevis played an excellent knock of 65 off 99 deliveries, including 6 fours and 2 sixes.
The 17-year-old was involved in three crucial partnerships and kept South Africa in the chase as long as he was there. During his knock, he played some exceptional shots that reminded everyone of AB de Villiers.

When Brevis reached his fifty, his teammates were also seen acknowledging his milestone from the dug out while holding a placard reading ‘Baby AB’. That shows how much his teammates believe in him and his abilities. Not only that, Brevis wears the No.17 jersey as well, which de Villiers used to wear with immense pride during his career.
Dewald Brevis caught the attention of many in the SA U19’s opening #T20KO match.
How will he and the rest of the SA U19s go throughout the competition?

In addition to his 65 runs, Brevis also went on to claim two wickets in the 7.5 overs he bowled. However, his all-round effort didn’t turn out to be enough as South Africa still lost the match by 44 runs.
India U19 Skipper Yash Dhull led from the front with a brilliant innings of 82. Left-arm spinner Vicky Ostwal broke the back of the South African batting lineup with figures of 5/28.
