Watch: Marnus Labuschagne bowls pace, takes two wickets in County Championship

CX Staff Writer

Marnus Labuschagne ended the innings with impressive figures of 2/11.

Australia cricketer Marnus Labuschagne is known for his funky but effective batting in Test cricket. Currently, he is enjoying his time in the UK playing for Glamorgan in the ongoing County Championship. Glamorgan are facing Nottinghamshire in this round of championship and the cricketer managed to do well, not with the bat but with the ball.

Interestingly, he resorted to medium pace bowling thanks to the conditions on offer at Trent Bridge in Nottingham on the opening day of the game. He was introduced into the attack a few overs before the new ball was available and the man made an impact during his five-over spell.

Labuschagne first dismissed Tom Moores who edged one behind to the wicketkeeper Chris Cooke. However, the Australian snared the big fish in the next over of his spell. He sent back the centurion Ben Duckett who could punch a full length back at Labuschagne who completed the catch in his follow through.

It was an important wicket as Duckett was set on 122 runs then and his wicket helped Glamorgan restrict the opposition for 302 runs in their first innings. Labuschagne ended with the figures of 2/11 in his five overs showing off his bowling skills yet again.

Here’s the video:

As far as the game is concerned, Glamorgan opted to bowl first after winning the toss. Michael Neser was the one to strike with the new ball for them as he sent back opener Ben Slater. Haseeb Hameed, who was dropped from England squad after Ashes drubbing, wasted an impressive start and got run-out on 34.

Ben Duckett then took charge of the innings to play an impressive. He stitched crucial partnerships of 77 and 116 runs with Joe Clarke and skipper Steven Mullaney. In the process, the left-hander also smacked a century.

At 258/4, the Notts looked set to end the day on a high but Labuschagne’s key wickets coupled with Neser’s bowling with the second new ball made sure they got bundled out for 302 runs. Glamorgan openers David Lloyd and Andrew Salter then batted out the tricky phase of five overs to score 33 runs.

Marnu Labuschagne will bat at three for Glamorgan and the cricketer will be hoping to make an impact with his willow too.
