Western Australia and New South Wales will lock horns in the final match of the Marsh Cup 2021-2022. Western Australia finished at the top of the points table with 4 wins and 2 defeats in 6 matches. New South Wales, meanwhile, finished second with 2 wins and 4 of their games were abandoned without a ball being bowled due to heavy rain. New South Wales and Tasmania had 17 points each but New South Wales had the best net run-rate in the competition (2.619) and because of that they qualified for the finals.
Western Australia defeated Victoria by 6 wickets in their last game with a bonus point that helped them to reach the finals. Their bowlers did an excellent job bundling Victoria for just 143 runs. Aaron Hardie was their best bowler as he picked 3 wickets. Jhye Richardson and Jason Behrendorff picked 2 wickets each while Matthew Kelly and D’Arcy Short got one wicket each.
Their batters then chased down the target with ease. They won the match with 22.5 overs remaining and 6 wickets in hand. D’Arcy Short scored 54 runs and was the play of the match for his all-round performance. Shaun Marsh scored 31 runs while Hilton Cartwright scored a quickfire 22 and saw his team over the line.
New South Wales, meanwhile, saw their last three games being abandoned due to rain without a single ball being bowled. They played their last game last month against Queensland which they won by 5 wickets. Many of their big names like Kurtis Patterson, Moises Henriques, and Daniel Sams etc will be available for this game which will make their side a very strong one.
Their batters haven’t had a lot of game time in the tournament and that is little concerning for them as they’ve lacked game time as 4 of their matches were abandoned. New South Wales performed really well in the two games that they won and they have a very balanced and experienced squad which will be eager to go on the field on Thursday.
Match: Western Australia vs New South Wales, Marsh One Day Cup, Final
When: 11th March 2022 (Thursday) – 5:05 AM IST

This match will be played at the Junction Oval in Melbourne. The pitch here is a good one for batting but bowlers, especially the pacers have dominated at this venue in this tournament. The new ball will move a little and there will be good bounce as well. The batters can play freely if they can survive the first few overs with the new ball. The average 1st innings score at this venue is 214 runs in the tournament. Teams are expected to chase on this wicket after winning the toss.
Western Australia has played some good cricket to reach the finals and will be high on confidence as well coming into this game.
