WATCH: Weirdest six from Jos Buttler! Smashes double bounce six from outside the pitch

CX Staff Writer

Jos Buttler stroked unbeaten 86 off 64 to complete England’s 3-0 ODI series whitewash of the Netherlands in Amstelveen on Wednesday.

Having smashed England’s second fastest hundred last week en-route to a record 498/4 – the highest ever ODI total – Jos Buttler continued his belligerent form on Wednesday in England’s thumping eight-wicket win to close out the series 3-0 against Netherlands.

Buttler, leading the side in the absence of Eoin Morgan, walked in to bat at No.4 in a 245-run chase, with his side 85/2 at the end of 10 overs. He added an unbeaten 153 for the third wicket with Jason Roy in mere 20.1 overs, as the win was sealed with 119 balls remaining.

Buttler finished unbeaten 86 off 64, striking seven fours and five sixes, and one of those maximums was the weirdest of the lot.

Paul van Meekeren, the right-arm quick attempted a slower one on the fifth ball of the 29th over, and got it horribly wrong as the ball slipped out of his hand to bounce twice outside of the pitch towards the on-side. Buttler approached the ball and showed no mercy, dispatching it sailing over deep square leg for a six. The subsequent ball was a free-hit as a result, and Buttler smashed another straight over the bowler’s head in an over that had begun with 2, 4, and 6 to eventually account for 26.

A six off left-arm spinner Tim Pringle would seal England’s 3-0 clean sweep. Roy remained unbeaten at 101 off 86 – his 10th ODI hundred – having struck 15 fours.

Earlier, Netherlands were bundled out for 244 in 49.2 overs after being put in to bat. Skipper Scott Edwards, Bas de Leede and Max O’Dowd scored fifties for the hosts, while David Willey was England’s standout bowler with 4/36.
