The form England captain Joe Root has been in required West Indies an absolute peach of a delivery from Alzarri Joseph to dismiss him in the third-innings of the first Test in Antigua. Joseph bowled a pitch-perfect yorker past Root’s willow to get him bowled after an attempted flick through the on-side.
The dismissal came about as Root was trying to force the issue and declare soon with England in the ascendancy. But still, he was more outdone by the quality of the delivery from the West Indies speedster than a false stroke.
While Root tried to get underneath the ball and dispatch it through the on-side, the yorker from Alzarri Joseph was so very well executed that he could never make contact with it and ended up being bowled with his leg-stump nearly uprooted.

Alzarri Joseph got one past the mighty Joe Root.
What only made it tougher for Root to correctly execute his stroke is the late inswing on the delivery from Alzarri Joseph, who got the movement at a very high speed, which meant no time for any last adjustment for the batter.
Up until that point, Joseph had gone nearly 20 overs with just one wicket to show for his effort. Thus, the wicket of an in-form Root would’ve lifted his spirits that much more. Getting Root out hasn’t been easy for bowlers around the world for a while now and Joseph did it with a memorable yorker.

The wicket ball from Alzarri Joseph came after Root scripted yet another Test hundred to his name. The England batter missed out in the first-innings but came back strongly with a knock of 109 off 204 deliveries.
This was Root’s seventh Test match hundred since the start of 2021 in a period he has now recorded a whopping 1,899 runs from his 18 Tests at an average of 55.85, also including four half-centuries.
Root’s average for this phase is more than six runs higher than his overall career average of 49.35. The great batter will be hoping to continue this rich vein of form as England eye a series win in the Caribbean.
